Research Overview

I am interested in the development of ecologically sustainable techniques for managing insect pests across a variety of agricultural and horticultural crops.  Understanding the basic biology, behavior, and trophic interactions of an insect pest and its natural enemies is critical for maintaining and developing effective integrated pest management programs, which can reduce our dependence on chemical pesticides.  My current project focuses on stink bugs in cotton, and I am interested in identifying potential biological control agents, the biological aspects of stink bug damage, and techniques for rapidly detecting and monitoring stink bug populations and damage in agricultural landscapes.

Presentations

Multitrophic interactions among crapemyrtles Lagerstroemia spp., the crapemyrtle aphid Sarucallis kahawaluokalani and aphid predators.

Influence of habitat structure on lady beetle predators of the crapemyrtle aphid Sarucallis kahawaluokalani.

The crapemyrtle aphid Sarucallis kahawaluokalani and the green lacewing Chrysoperla rufilabris

Effect of crape myrtle Lagerstroemia spp. parentage on its suitability as a host for the crape myrtle aphid Sarucallis kahawaluokalani.
